New Dems Appalled by Administration’s Order to Freeze Grant Funding for American Communities

Today, New Democrat Coalition Chair Brad Schneider (IL-10) and Vice Chair Marc Veasey (TX-33) issued a statement following the Trump Administration’s order to federal agencies to freeze grant and loan payments beginning at 5:00pm this afternoon.

“New Dems are appalled by the Trump Administration’s blatantly unlawful order to freeze the delivery of essential resources to American communities, businesses, nonprofits, and families.

“This action is stoking fear and uncertainty across the country at a time when many Americans are already struggling to pay their bills and get ahead. The freeze would have devastating impacts on everything from housing and healthcare to education and public safety. It could raise food prices for families, shutter small businesses, block funding schools need to pay teachers, cut funding for police and fire departments, and spike rent and home loan payments. 

“The President is putting his political vendettas and far-right ideology ahead of the safety and security of the American people. New Dems call on the Administration to immediately halt all attempts to freeze grant and loan payments, and we will do everything in our power to ensure American communities receive the funding they are owed and deserve.”
